 Caring for Carers who Care

What we do

Service

  • We offer a personal friendly service to all our Foster Carers.
  • You will not be just a carer - your will be part of our family.
  • We are here to support you and answer your questions.
  • We want to get to know you and for you to get to know us.
  • We offer very competitive allowances for children in your care.

 

Finance

  • All Foster Carers receive an allowance for each night a child is in their care.
  • In addition Foster Carers receive respite leave each year.
  • A mileage allowance is paid for certain journeys
  • All Carers are included in Cariad's membership to the Fostering Network.
  • All Foster Carers are self -employed and are responsible for their own PAYE and NI - If you have not been self-employed before help and guidance will be provided.

Training

  • Induction training prior to attending the panel and approval.
  • Once approved Foster Carer's are expected to undertake an NVQ in Child Care if they do not already have the qualification
  • All Foster Carers must attend all in-house and external training.
  • Training will be provided to address generalised issued raised by fostering but also specific issues to assist carers manage individual situations.

Carer Support

  • A fully qualified Supervising Social Worker will be allocated to each Carer and will visit the Foster Carers once a fortnight.
  • At weekends and evenings Foster Carers will be offered an on-call service
  • In addition all carers will be provided with the Emergency Duty Team telephone number for the authority from which the child in their care originates
  • All Foster Carers have to undergo an annual review with the Panel.

Handbooks

  • We will provide you with a handbook to help you every step of the way
  • The Carer's handbook is available to all Foster Carers and includes a wealth of information about Cariad's policies and guidelines.
  • It explains what not to do and what to do and most importantly how to do it.
  • The young person's handbook is available to all foster children. It provides information about the Agency, their rights, children's organisations and who to contact regarding a complaint
